on Research Analysis and Writing in
Social Sciences
September 24-30, 2012
The
Gujarat Institute of Development Research (GIDR) organises
a Workshop on Research Analysis and Writing
in Social Sciences during September
24-30, 2012. The workshop is supported by
the Indian Council of Social Science Research, New
Delhi.
The workshop aims at orienting young researchers in
social sciences (such as Economics, Political Science
and Sociology) to the methods of research analysis,
and structuring and writing publishable research outputs.
The workshop has four main modules:

Philosophical Foundations of Research

Introduction to Methods of Scientific Research
-
Methods of Qualitative Research
-
Research
Writing and Publishing
Pedagogy
Apart from the interactive classroom lectures, the
participants will have opportunities to get practical
training in the use of selected statistical programmes.
Participants will get the opportunity to interact
closely with the faculty members of the Institute
and receive personal guidance in the preparation of
a short research paper.
Eligibility Criteria
Category A: Young researchers and teachers affiliated
to colleges, universities or research organisations
and those pursuing or preparing for their PhD or MPhil
Courses are eligible to apply.
Category B: Other young researchers outside academic
arena but engaged in socio-economic research (such
as consultants, activists and NGO functionaries) are
also encouraged to apply; a limited number of such
applications may be considered in deserving cases.
How to Apply
The aspiring researchers are expected to submit their
recent curriculum vitae along with an outline (about
500 words) of a research paper stating the problem,
research questions, sources of data, broad methodology
and analytical tools.
Travel and Lodging
The Institute shall provide free lodging and boarding
and partial travel assistance to the selected participants
of Category A.
For Category B participants boarding shall be free,
but accommodation and travel will be at their expense.
