The Foundation for Agrarian Studies Workshop for Ph.D. Scholars on Agrarian
Studies in India, |

The
Foundation for Agrarian Studies is a charitable Trust that sponsors and
funds multi-disciplinary theoretical and empirical research on agrarian
studies in less-developed countries. The panel of advisers of the Foundation
include K. Nagaraj, Utsa Patnaik, V. K. Ramachandran, Abhijit Sen and
Madhura Swaminathan. The Foundation is organising a four-day workshop
in Bangalore from March 24 to 28, 2004 for Ph.D. scholars working in the
field of agrarian studies.
The faculty for the workshop will be constituted by experts from different parts of the country. At the workshop, participants will attend specialised lectures on theoretical, methodological and empirical developments in research on agrarian issues, and will have an opportunity to meet workshop faculty members for discussions. Selected research scholars will also be asked to make presentations on their research. The workshop is primarily aimed at research scholars in the social sciences who are at an advanced stage of their research. The topic of research should preferably be related to the following three areas:
The
Foundation will meet participants’ expenses on rail travel by sleeper
class, food and accommodation and pay them a small daily allowance during
the workshop. Research scholars who wish to participate should apply
with their most recent curriculum vitae, a short note (in about 1500
words) on their research topics and progress in research, and a letter
of recommendation from their research supervisor. The last date for
applications is February 10, 2004, and selected applicants will be notified
