An Economic Paradox*

Prabhat Patnaik explains the paradoxical emergence of excess supply of foodgrains in the neoliberal era despite lower foodgrain growth and higher GDP growth. This reflects squeezed real incomes of the agriculture-dependent population, because of falling agricultural output growth rates and declinesin real purchasing power per unit of output.
